Niederau and Oberau are small, picturesque villages situated in one of the Tyrol’s prettiest valleys. Wide, nursery slopes in the village centres and first-class ski instruction make them perfect for beginners on their first ski holiday. The ski school continually receives excellent feedback for its professional, friendly service, and its awards evening at the end of the week with live music from the ski instructors’ band is not to be missed. The compact village centres close to the slopes, the gentle, rolling runs and specialist children’s ski instruction make them a great destination for family ski holidays too. Niederau’s rustic village centre has a handful of shops, a supermarket, plus several cafés and restaurants, while Oberau is smaller, centred around a pretty church. Evenings are relaxed and informal – these are not lively resorts but a few cosy stüberls and bars sometimes offer live music and there are three discos. We cannot recommend them highly enough for beginners and families on a ski holiday. Niederau and Oberau both offer ski-kindergartens. The ski school in Niederau runs Bobo's Kinder Club, a ski kindergarten for small children. A special ski area at the base of the slopes in the centre of Niederau provides a magic carpet lift, a ski carousel, slides and games. Six and three day courses (4hrs a day) can be pre-booked through Neilson for children from 3-5yrs. Other durations and lunch with lunchtime supervision can be booked locally. In Oberau, the ski kindergarten is situated at the foot of the nursery slopes and run by the ski school. For non-skiing children, the ski school in Niederau runs its own crèche for children aged 2–5yrs whose parents are in ski school. Prices are €33 per day or €198 for 6 days. Lunch with lunchtime supervision can be booked locally.

Not much for the advanced, however, an excellent resort to learn. Auffach has a half-pipe and snowboard park for the more experienced freestyle boarders.
