Snowboarding Technique Course
If you’re like me, you’ve been snowboarding for a week or two for a number of years, investing in lessons for the first couple of years and have now progressed to be a confident snowboarder on any piste that is laid out before you. However, once there’s more that 5 or 6 inches of fresh snow the confidence goes and so does the technique.
Well it’s time to invest a little time again in lessons, but nobody wants to loose any of those precious days skiing on your main holiday. So we have put together the following 2 day course based on the Krippenstein.
Your accommodation is at the Obertrauner Hof providing comfortably furnished, spacious en-suite rooms, many with Balconies opening to panoramic views of the Dachstein Massif.

Arrive Salzburg airport, make your way through the stunning scenery of the Salzkammergut region of Austria, to the Gasthof Obertrauner Hof.
The Obertrauner Hof provides comfortably furnished, spacious en-suite rooms, many with Balconies opening to panoramic views of the Dachstein Massif.
Rooms are available as double or UK twin. For those of you who arrive early and are keen to make a start, you can purchase a half-day lift-pass and loosen up the limbs on the 11km run from the top of the Krippenstein. In the evening enjoy a hearty buffet meal prepared by Freddy the proprietor of the on-site restaurant Glankowirt. Outdoor-Leadership your guides for the weekend, will provide a briefing, outlining the next 2 days and basic safety issues.
Day 1, after breakfast the weekend begins in earnest. Straight to the top of the Krippenstein. Here your guide will use the uncrowded area at the top as well as the run to the bottom to access your technique and provide pointers for improvement, these are people that have been snowboarding all of their life and so can add valuable insight. Lunch will be taken at the Lodge, where the afternoon will be discussed and your first steps into Off-Piste. From there your guide will take you into some of the large variety of Off-Piste sections available on the Krippenstein, continually building confidence. In the evening you’ll have the chance to discuss the day and exchange thoughts and tips over a 3 course meal at the Glankowirt.
Day 2, today will be the first day of the rest of your snowboarding life. Experience some of the huge variety of descents from the top of the Krippenstein, finding those untouched slopes, full of ‘Powder’ just waiting for you to carve those first tracks; pure EXHILERATION! At the end of the day, return to the Glankowirt for a celebration meal and glow with real satisfaction for what you’ve achieved. Return to Salzburg airport the following day and your homeward journey.
For those that have partners who would like to come along buy a pass to the Dachstein West Ski region and enjoy the 140km of intermediate piste that is available in Gosau (15min drive). Or if they don’t snowboard, a visit to the World Heritage site of Hallstatt, situated just across the lake is a must, or travel into Bad Ischl and sample the Royal Spa, or just take a walk around the peaceful village and the banks of lake Halstattersee.
Outdoor-Leadership will have the final say regarding the skiing routes taken, taking consideration of weather conditions, group fitness etc. Their decision will be final. |
